Forester offense runs into pitching buzz saw in Bethel softball sweep

The Huntington University softball team ran into a pitching buzz saw against host Bethel on Thursday, April 9, and dropped both ends of a doubleheader by getting only one hit in the two games.

The NAIA eighth-ranked Pilots, 35-3, swept the twinbill 10-2 and 1-0.

In the opener, HU quickly had a moment of glory by scoring an unearned run in the top of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. The Pilots quickly bounced back to take control of the game with a five-run second inning.

Ashley McCann got the Foresters' lone hit of the day with an RBI single in the fourth.

Lauren Ward gave up only three hits in the second game, but one of them was a home run by Kaitlyn Dubois in the fifth inning, which provided Bethel all the cushion it needed as Rachel Zirille fired a no-hitter at the HU offense. Ward's efforts included seven strikeouts.

Molly Long took the first game loss, but was not helped by a defense which committed four errors leading to five unearned runs.

The Foresters fell to 15-11 on the season, 3-5 in conference play.
