HU golfers open spring season with invite win

The Huntington University men's golf team opened its spring season with a win at the University of St. Francis Spring Invitational on Wednesday and Thursday, April 8-9.

Led by medalist Spencer Batt, HU shot a 302 on the first day to take a four-stroke lead and came back with a 291 the second day to win by six strokes, with a total of 593.
Batt, who turned in 69 on day two, earned medalist honors with a 145 for the tournament. Teammate Cory Powell was right behind at 146 (71, 75).

Jordan Dawes turned in a 149 (77, 72), Justin Imel shot a 153 (78, 75) and Ryan Bonner finished with a 161 (82, 79) to complete the team scoring.

HU's Dan Schroeder played individually and tallied a 162 (79, 83).

Cornerstone finished second behind the Foresters with a 599, followed by Wheaton at 613, Spring Arbor and Indiana Tech, both at 620, Bethel at 621, St. Francis at 633, Taylor at 644, Siena Heights at 648 and Goshen at 710.
