HU men’s tennis notch two opening day wins at Swinney Park Sept. 5

The Huntington University Men’s Tennis team notched a pair of opening day wins over Goshen and Saint Francis at Swinney Park on Saturday, Sept. 5, under first-year head coach Ignacio Poncio.

HU entered the day having lost three straight to the Goshen Maple Leafs, but that string was broken in convincing fashion with a 5-2 win. After a short break, Poncio’s crew was back at it to make quick work of the host Cougars for a 7-0 sweep.

Over the last decade, the Foresters are a perfect 11-0 against Saint Francis.

“These two wins are an awesome way to start our season. Against Goshen, it was our first win over them in a few years,” said Coach Poncio. “Today was a great confidence booster for the team and I expect us to feed off it and carry the intensity we brought today into our next match.”

Poncio and crew are back in action on Saturday, Sept. 12, to host Bethel and Spring Arbor. Saturday’s matches will be the only time HU plays at home this fall.
