HU women’s tennis sees back-to-back wins Sept. 5

The Huntington University women’s tennis team started off their season with a bang by picking up back-to-back wins on opening day over Goshen and Saint Francis at Swinney Park.

HU’s regular season has been condensed into two weeks as their schedule is limited to Crossroads League matches. To accommodate this setup, Ferguson’s crew will play two matches each outing.

HU’s only loss in the opener against the Maple Leafs was a default at No. 6 singles as Huntington is temporarily carrying a roster of five. The Foresters, who also had to default at No. 3 doubles, still won the point in doubles play by breezing to a pair of wins at the top two spots before winning out in singles, which included sophomore Alaina Rongos edging out Ashley Arroyo for her first collegiate win in an HU tennis uniform. When all was said and done, the final score registered 6-1.

Against host Saint Francis, things were a little tighter for a 4-3 final. The Foresters again claimed the point in doubles by winning at the one and two spot after which Morgan Fitzpatrick, Lanae Singleton and Lisa Colling each won in straight sets to log the final three points to lock up the victory.

The Foresters have racked up 15 straight wins against Goshen and seven consecutive against USF.
