HNHS boys’ varsity tennis defeats DeKalb Sept. 3

The Huntington North High School boys’ tennis team traveled to DeKalb High School on Thursday, Sept. 3, seeing some tough competition while there.

Vikings singles player Chase Mickley won over opponent Owen Holwerda, with set scores of 7-5 and 6-4. Carson Kitchen and Jacob Daugherty were both defeated by their DeKalb opponents. Kitchen fell in three sets, with scores of 7-5, 6-3 and 11-9. Daugherty fell with set scores of 6-3.

Varsity doubles players found victory for their sets. Partners Noah Zahn and Thomas Schweller beat out their DeKalb opponents Krue Nagel and Kaine Smith with scores of 6-3 and 6-1. HNHS doubles partners Matthew Weill and Reid Eckert won out over DeKalb’s Elijah Ehmke and Kiefer Nagel with scores of 6-4 for both sets.

Junior varsity singles player Max Fusselman had the lone junior varsity singles win for the evening, against DeKalb’s Wyatt Darrow. Partners Michael Henderson and Joe Bowers won over their DeKalb opponents Tyler Dewitt and Shiloh Higgins in junior varsity doubles play.

As of Sept. 3, the HNHS tennis team holds a 7-1 varsity record and a 6-3-2 JV record.  This was the team’s first conference win of the season.
