Forester SB wins twinbill

Masterful pitching in the opener and a big seventh inning explosion in the nightcap led the Huntington University softball team to a doubleheader win over host Manchester University on Monday, March 9.

The Foresters won the opener 5-1, and took the nightcap, 11-3.

Meghan Fretz was the star of the show in the opener as she pitched two-hit ball for the complete game win. She struck out eight and walked just one in the gem.

Jenessa Hasty took offensive matters into her own hands with a 3 for 3 effort at the plate with three runs batted in.

Karley Blankenship had two of the Foresters’ 11 hits in the game.

The Foresters were up 4-3 heading into the seventh in the nightcap. Blankenship and Sophia Beachy each knocked in two runs in the frame to help the Foresters ice their fifth win against four losses this season.

Blankenship had a team-leading three hits as HU piled up a total of 15 safeties. Beachy, Bailey Strickler, Kiera Stacy, Hasty and Jada Crofoot each had two hits.

Beachy finished with three RBI.

MacKyndsea Burke spent 6.1 innings in the circle to pick up the win. She scattered six hits and three runs, with two strikeouts and three walks.
