HU pitching dominates in twinbill win over Marian

Huntington University pitching dominated Saturday, March 7, as the Foresters swept a doubleheader form visiting Marian, winning 2-0 and 4-2.

Senior Alex McCutcheon threw a one-hit shutout in the opener as HU improved to 4-7 with the twin wins. McCutcheon, a lefty, had three strikeouts and just one walk.

His teammates gave him the only run he needed in the first inning as Langston Ginder reached base on a Marian error and scored on Daniel Lichty’s single.

Lichty also had a hand in the insurance run in the fourth inning as he singled, moved to third on a Jarret Gray single and came home on Owen Young’s dribbler.

HU only had four hits in the contest.

HU scored a pair of runs in the inning of the second game, but Marian tied the contest in the sixth. HU pushed across two more runs in the seventh to make a winner of Mason Shinabery.

Shinabery racked up nine strikeouts against three walks with two runs, one earned, on five hits through seven innings. Camden Dice pitched the final two frames hitless and had two strikeouts.

The winning rally began with two outs as Ginder, Lichty and Gray linked singles, with Gray getting the ribbies.

The Foresters’ third inning pair also came with two outs. Gray reached on a walk and stole second before Young hit a two-run blast over the right field fence.

HU had eight hits in the contest, with Gray and Young each having a pair.
