Eckert places 12th at regional

Huntington North High School senior Aleah Eckert placed 12th on Saturday, March 7, in the floor exercise at the Huntington North Regional Gymnastics Tournament.

Eckert scored an 8.950 for her placing.

Only the top six place-winners advance to state next week.

Gianna Zirille, a freshman from Homestead, won the floor with a score of 9.300 on the way to sweeping all four events and the all-around. Zirille took the vault with a 9.650, the bars with a 9.600, the beam with the same score and wound up with a 38.150 in the all-around.

Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger won the team championship with a score of 108.525, nipping Homestead by one-half point for the title. Carroll got the final team slot to state with a score of 106.700 for third place.
