Forester SB team loses twinbill to IUSE

The Huntington University softball team suffered a twinbill loss to host Indiana University Southeast on Friday afternoon, March 6falling 14-6 and 10-5.

The Foresters, 2-3, took a 6-5 lead in the fifth inning of te first game on Kaela Robey’s first collegiate home run, but IUSE stormed back in the bottom half of the frame for nine runs, winning the game on the eight-run rule.

In the second contest, the Grenadiers turned a 3-2 lead into a 7-2 lead with a four-spot in the fourth. HU came back with three runs in its half of the fifth, but IUSE tacked on another two runs in the bottom of the frame, and got one more in the sixth inning.

In the opener, the Foresters banged out nine hits, with Paige Eichelberger, Kiera Stacy and Robey each having a pair. Eichelberger also had two runs batted in.

Meghan Fretz was battered for the loss on the mound, throwing 4.1 innings and yielding 10 earned runs on 11 hits, with three strikeouts and two walks.

HU managed another nine hits in the nightcap. Eichelberger added three more, and Jada Crofoot and Sophia Beachy each had two.

Tiffany Price started and got the loss, throwing 3.2 innings and yielding seven earned runs on seven hits, with four walks and three home runs given up. Mallory West pitched the final 2.1 frames and gave up three earned runs on six hits.
