Fryman notches another 30-pointer, but HU loses

A 31-point effort by Sarah Fryman wasn’t enough for the Huntington University women’s basketball team as it lost, 56-52 to visiting Indiana Wesleyan University on Wednesday night, Feb. 12.

Fryman banged in 12 of 23 shots from the field and knocked down 5 of 5 free throw tries to finish with 31 points on the night, but it wasn’t enough to stop HU from getting its eighth loss of the season against 19 wins. HU is 8-7 in Crossroads League play.

No. 21 IWU improved to 20-7 on the season, 11-4 in the CL.

The effort by Fryman was her third consecutive effort topping the 30-point mark.

HU led after the first quarter, 11-9, but trailed at halftime, 24-23. Wesleyan expanded the lead to 44-37 after three quarters.

Erin Mohr and Alaina Rongos each scored seven points to back Fryman.

Dayton Groninger scored 16 points and Anne Secrest had 11 to lead IWU.

The Foresters shot 20 of 55 from the field for 36.4 percent and hit 8 of 13 from the charity stripe for 61.5 percent. IWU hit 18 of 51 from the field for 35.3 percent and added 14 of 17 from the line for 82.4 percent.

Sam Hammel pulled down nine rebounds to lead HU on the boards, and she also had five assists three steals. Fryman also had three steals.
