Vikings fall to New Haven, 63-56

Free throws and points off of turnovers proved the difference as the Huntington North High School boys’ varsity basketball team fell to visiting New Haven, 63-56, on Friday night, Feb. 7.

Despite both teams hitting better than 50 percent from the field, the visitors more than doubled the free throw tries from HNHS and added to that by outscoring them 12-4 on turnover points.

The Vikings trailed 18-12 after the first quarter, went into halftime with a deficit of 29-22 and trailed opening the fourth quarter 45-34. The Bulldogs got their biggest lead of the night at  56-40 early in the fourth quarter, forcing the Vikings into a fouling game the rest of the way.

Zach Hubartt had 16 points and Sam Thompson had 13 to lead HNHS. Jordan Hollowell added 11 points.

Hubartt also had seven assists.

HNHS hit 19 of 33 shots from the field for 55 percent and added 10 of 11 from the free-throw line for 90.9 percent. The Bulldogs hit 20 of 38 from the field for 56.5 percent and went 16 of 24 from the stripe for 66.7 percent.

Thomas Latham scored a game-high 25 points to lead New Haven. Donovynn Lewis added 16 points and Jamarr Hutchins had 13.

The HNHS junior varsity won, 54-50 behind 18 points from Wyatt Dohrman and 13 from Will Hotchkiss.

Dorhman hit all seven of his shots from the field.
