Middlesworth leads HU men to upset of No. 20 MVNU

Caleb Middlesworth had his fourth 30-point game of the season as the Huntington University men’s basketball team edged host No. 20 Mount Vernon Nazarene University, 71-68, on Saturday, Feb. 8.

Middlesworth banged in 12 of 19 shots from the field -- including six triples on his way to a game-high 31 points as HU evened its season record at 13-13 overall and improved to 5-9 in the Crossroads League.

Peyton West had a double-double of 17 points and 12 rebounds and Konner Platt added 11 points for HU, which led 34-33 at the half.

Jevon Knox had 19 points and Jacob Paul 17 for MVNU, 18-8 overall and 6-8 in the CL. Austin Jones and Isaac White each notched 11 points.

West and Platt each had five assists to move the HU offense along. Middlesworth sparked the defense with four blocks.

The Foresters hit 27 of 58 shots from the field for 46.6 percent and added 5 of 8 from the charity stripe for 62.5 percent. The hosts hit 22 of 68 from the field for 32.4 percent and went 14 of 17 from the line for 82.4 percent.

Alex Johnson had a game-high 16 rebounds for the Cougars, who won the battle of the boards 45-34.
