Season ends for Lady Vikes with sectional loss to South Side

The season came to an end for the Huntington North High School girls’ basketball team with a 45-31 loss to South Side in the opening round of the South Side Sectional on Tuesday, Feb. 4.

The Lady Archers pulled away from the Lady Vikings in the fourth quarter after three tight frames. The teams were tied at 2-2 after the first quarter and Huntington North trailed by just a point at halftime, 16-15. Sophomore Leah Campbell deadlocked the game at 22-22 with a three-pointer at the 2:32 mark in the third, but South Side managed to reestablish its lead by the quarter’s end, 27-22. The hosts then proceeded to score the first eight points of the final frame to craft a 35-22 advantage and put the lead out of reach.

With the loss, the Lady Vikings’ third to South Side in as many postseasons, they finish the year 15-8.

Huntington North was paced by Campbell and junior Reece Colclesser, who scored nine points apiece. Freshman Taylor Double added six points to the team’s cause.

South Side, 15-9, was led by Jaci Jones, who scored 19 points, and Olivia Smith, who tossed in 12.
