Oak Hill defeats Lady Vikes in pool

The Huntington North High School girls’ varsity swim team fell to host Oak Hill, 125-54, on Monday, Jan. 13.

Allie Aschliman highlighted the Lady Vikings’ efforts with a pair of wins. The senior triumphed in the 100-yard butterfly, clocking in at 1:04.38, and the 100-yard backstroke, touching the wall in 1:10.13.

Laney Shaw posted Huntington North’s only other win on the night. The senior topped the 50-yard freestyle in :28.58. She also earned third-place points in the 100-yard breaststroke, stopping the timer in 1:25.88.

Mya MacAleese was the silver finisher in the 200-yard individual medley, turning in a time of 2:35.82. The freshman also placed third in the 100-yard freestyle, finishing in 1:02.82.

Alyssa Brinkman and Bekah Brunner both tallied bronze points for the Lady Vikings. Brinkman, a senior, swam the 100 butterfly in 1:20.17 while Brunner, a junior, swam the 500-yard freestyle in 6:43.80.

Brinkman, MacAleese, Shaw and Aschliman joined forces for runner-up finishes in the 200-yard medley relay and 400-yard freestyle relay. The quartet completed the medley in 2:10.28 and the freestyle in 4:17.35.

A bronze showing in the 200-yard freestyle relay rounded out Huntington North’s top-three finishes. A foursome of Brunner, senior Brenna Mason and juniors Victoria Damsleth-Aalrud and Kaylee Levy turned in a time of 2:19.97.

The Huntington North boys’ varsity swim team also lost to Oak Hill, 128-23.

Jeff Gross was a two-time winner for the Vikings. The freshman took the 100-yard freestyle in 1:04.82 and the 100-yard backstroke in 1:20.37. Colten Schulte rounded out the team’s victories with a triumph in the 200-yard individual medley. The sophomore touched the wall in 2:25.84.
