Poor shooting dooms Vikes in loss to East Noble

Poor shooting, particularly in the second half, doomed the Huntington North high School boys’ varsity basketball team as it lost to visiting East Noble, 51-32, on Friday night, Jan. 10.

The Vikings, 4-8, 0-2 in the NE8, hit 11 of 35 shots from the field for 31.4 percent on the night, including connecting on just 4 of 19 fielders in the second half for 21 percent.

They trailed 14-8 after one quarter and 26-17 at halftime. East Noble, 4-4, 1-1 in theNE8, crushed any HNHS comeback hopes with a 15-4 advantage in the third quarter to take a 41-21 lead into the final frame.

Mitchell Gerber led the Vikings with seven points, and he and Zach Hubartt each had three steals.

Hayden Jones led East Noble with 15 points. Nate Dickson added 12.

The Knights hit 19 of 39 shots from the field for 48.7 percent and added 8 of 17 from the free-throw line for 47.1 percent.

The junior varsity Vikings won 44-36. Jacob Daugherty notched eight points and Noah Zahn, Brady Shearer and Will Hotchkiss each scored seven.
