HU men lose to No. 4 MVNU in OT

The Huntington University men’s basketball team lost a double-digit lead with eight minutes to go and wound up losing to visiting, fourth-ranked Mount Vernon Nazarene University, 88-82, in overtime.

The Foresters, 9-8, held a 66-55 lead when Klajd Kiri hit a shot with 7:58 left in the game, but MVNU showed why it had the high ranking after that, outscoring HU 19-10 to end regulation. Jevon Knox hit a trey with five seconds remaining to knot the score at 76-all.

Knox hit another three at the start of overtime to put his team up and ultimately send the Cougars to their 16th win in 17 outings.

Hank Pulver scored a career-high 18 points to lead HU and Konner Platt added 15. Lewis Wang scored 13 and Caleb Middlesworth had 11.

Middlesworth grabbed off 12 rebounds for a double-double, and Kiri had eight rebounds to go along with seven points.

Platt had four assists.

Huntington converted 32 of 72 field goal attempts for 44.4 percent and 5 of 10 free throw tries for 50 percent.

Austin Jones led all scorers with 23 points and Knox added 22 for MVNU. Isaac White tallied 12 and Alex Johnson had 11 to go along with 12 rebounds.

The Cougars hit 28 of 63 shots from the field for 44.4 percent and 21 of 27 freebie attempts for 77.8 percent.
