Lady Vikes win Lady Tiger Classic

The Huntington North High School girls’ varsity basketball team won the Lady Tiger Classic, hosted by Warsaw, on Saturday, Jan. 4.

The Lady Vikings opened the four-team competition with a 49-28 victory over Perry Meridian. Coach Matt Hinds’ squad then defeated Chesterton, 43-27, to top the classic.

With the pair of victories, Huntington North, 12-4, extended its winning streak to seven games.

Against Perry Meridian, the Lady Vikings were led by Reece Colclesser, who tallied 13 points. The junior did most of her damage from three-point land, where she went 3 of 3. Sophomore Grace Sell supplemented her offensive effort with nine points. Freshman Taylor Double and sophomore Addy Wiley added eight and seven points, respectively.

Double helped facilitate the offense, dishing out six assists.

Huntington North shot 16 of 33 from the field for 48 percent. The Lady Vikes added 10 points in 14 attempts at the free throw line for 71.4 percent.

Wiley pulled down six rebounds to help the Lady Vikings finish with 22.

Sell disrupted the Perry Meridian offense, grabbing four steals.

In the Chesterton game, Double led Huntington North with 17 points. Sell and sophomore Leah Campbell chipped in eight and seven points, respectively.

Colclesser kept the offense moving with five assists.

The Lady Vikings converted 16 of 32 field goal attempts for 50 percent and 5 of 7 freebie tries for 71.4 percent.

Junior Katelynn Arnold paced Huntington North on the glass with five rebounds. The team finished with 21.

Double also made her presence felt on defense, logging three steals.
