Leo run snatches win away from Vikes in second classic game

Leo ran off the last 15 points of the game to snatch a 52-49 victory away from the Huntington North High School boys’ varsity basketball team on Friday evening, Dec. 27, in the Vikings’ second effort in the HNHS Holiday Hoops Tourament.

The Vikings, 3-5, held their largest lead of the game at 49-37 in the final frame before the roof caved in.

Zach Hubartt led the Vikings with 18 points and Jordan Hollowell added 14 points. Dominic Cardwell scored seven.

Blake Davison notched a game-high 21 points to lead the Lions, 7-2.

The Vikes led 15-12 after the first quarter and were up by a point at 22-21 at halftime. An 18-11 advantage in the third quarter had them entering the final frame with a 40-32 lead.

Huntington North hit 20 of 39 field goal attempts for 51.2 percent and added 4 of 5 from the stripe for 80 percent. Leo hit 21 of 43 fielders for 48.8 percent and hit 4 of 9 from the free-throw line for 44.4 percent.

Hollowell and Hubartt each snared seven rebounds to pace the Vikes to a 28-18 boards advantage. Sam Thompson was the team assist leader with three, and Hubartt led in steals with three.
