Vikings lose season-opener to Spartans on hardwood

The Huntington North High School boys’ varsity basketball team lost its season-opener to visiting Homestead, 51-27, on Wednesday night, Nov. 27.

Jordan Hollowell scored two-thirds of the points for the Vikings, netting 18 by hitting 4 of 6 from the field and connecting on 9 of 10 free throw tries. Only three other Vikings even made it into the scoring column.

Homestead jumped out to a 13-4 lead after one quarter but HNHS cut the margin down to six at halftime, trailing 22-16. Homestead outscored the Vikes 20-5 in the third quarter to take a 42-21 lead into the final frame.

Luke Goode scored 16 points to lead the Spartans. Grant Simmons added 10 points.

The Vikings only put up 20 shots on the night, hitting eight for 40 percent. They went 9 of 12 from the stripe for 75 percent.

The Spartan hit 17 of 34 field goal tries for an even 50 percent. They only hit 12 of 28 from the line for 41.7 percent.

Zach Hubartt grabbed six rebounds to lead HNHS on the boards. Hollowell added a team-high two assists to his stat line.

The Viking junior varsity won 33-29 behind 10 points from Cam McCarver and seven from Will Hotchkiss.
