No. 7 SAU dispatches HU men

Spring Arbor University dispatched the Huntington University men’s basketball team, 88-78, on Tuesday, Nov. 26, at Platt Arena.

The Cougars, ranked No. 7 in the nation, led from wire to wire. The Foresters trailed 44-30 after the first half. Coach Ty Platt’s squad managed to whittle the visitors’ lead down to just two points, 53-51, by the 13:15 mark in the second stanza, but Spring Arbor countered with a 10-0 run to go back in front by a comfortable margin for the remainder of the game.

Huntington, 4-4, 0-1 in the Crossroads League, was paced by sophomore Peyton West and senior Konner Platt, who scored 23 and 20 points, respectively. Sophomore Caleb Middlesworth added 14 points.

The Foresters went 33 of 64 from the field for 51.6 percent. They added three points in four tries at the free-throw line for 75 percent.

Sophomore Spencer Ballinger corralled six rebounds for Huntington, which lost the battle of the boards, 35-17. Ballinger also recorded five steals.

Spring Arbor, 6-2, 1-0 in conference, was led by Brandon Durnell, who tallied 28 points. Luke Barber and Payton DeWildt chipped in 22 and 19 points, respectively.

The Cougars converted 33 of 53 field goal attempts for 62.3 percent and 16 of 23 freebie tries for 69.6 percent.
