HU soccermen get shootout win in nationals opening round

Junior goalkeeper Gabe Greenfield came up huge as the Huntington University men’s soccer team squeaked past Cardinal Stritch, 2-0 in overtime, on day one of the NAIA National Championship opening round at Rio Grande, OH.

Greenfield blocked the first two penalty kicks, then Cardinal Stritch hit the crossbar on its next two shots, while Caleb Sexton and Jake Erlandson were finding back netting for HU to move the Foresters into tomorrow’s game against No. 10 Rio Grande

The Foresters, 15-4-3, allowed only four shots on goal against a Stritch team that averaged eight shots and 2.5 goals a game.

Stritch’s season ends at 16-4-1.
