Forester women trounce Lincoln College

The Huntington University women’s basketball team trounced visiting Lincoln College, winning 84-62 in the semifinals of the Huntington University Classic on Friday, Nov. 15.

With the win, the Foresters advanced to the championship game of the classic on Saturday, Nov. 16, where they took on Indiana University Southeast. Southeast earned its spot in the title tilt with a 58-32 victory over Spring Arbor University on Nov. 15.

Lincoln hung with Huntington for a quarter before the Foresters pulled away. Leading 21-20 after the first frame, Coach Lori Culler’s squad outscored Lincoln 25-15 in the second to take a 46-35 advantage into the break. The hosts widened their lead to 70-53 by the end of the third before outscoring the Lynx 14-9 in the fourth to cap the win.

Huntington, 5-1, got a game-high 28 points from senior Sarah Fryman. Junior Jade Clement supplied 16 points to the Foresters’ cause, doing the balance of her damage from three-point land, where she went 4 for 5. Freshman Alaina Rongos added 15 points off the bench.

The Foresters converted 31 of 67 field goal attempts for 46.3 percent and 13 of 19 free throw tries for 68.4 percent.

Huntington outrebounded Lincoln to the tune of 45-38. Senior Cindy In’t Groen and sophomore Sara Doi collected five caroms apiece for the hosts.

Lincoln, 3-3, was paced by Erynn Young, who scored 16 points. Janita Clark and Elizabeth Bankole chipped in 12 and 10 points, respectively.

The Lynx hit 22 of 62 shots from the field for 35.5 percent and 15 of 20 attempts at the charity stripe for 75 percent.
