Wiley heading to state cross country meet

Sophomore Addy Wiley placed third at the New Haven Girls’ Cross Country meet on Saturday, Oct. 26, at the Purdue Fort Wayne cross country course and earned a trip to the state meet in Terre Haute on Saturday, Nov. 1.

The Lady Vikings as a team placed 13th among 20 teams competing, missing the top six cutoff necessary to advance on.

Wiley got one of the 10 spots reserved for individuals whose teams do not advance on. The sophomore came home in 17:57.6 to earn her first cross country state appearance. She did not run cross country last year.

Junior Hannah Whitney was second for HNHS with a clocking of 20:25.4 for 67th place. Sophomore Anna Guerre finished in 21:02.0 to place 87th, senior Meg McDonald was 91st in 21:06.0 and senior Kendyl Coles finished in 23:21.1 to place 121st.

Junior Naomi Richison placed 127th in 23:51.5 and junior Lesley Zook did not finish the race.

Erin Strzelecki of Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger won the individual title with a time of 17:29.4. Zoe Duffus of Fort Wayne Carroll was runner-up with a time of 17:33.1.

Carroll won the team chase with a score of 50. Fishers was runner-up with 139 points, Homestead was third with 145, Hamilton Southeastern was fourth with 168, Northridge was fifth with 169 and Fort Wayne Concordia Lutheran took the sixth and final qualifying spot with 189 points.

HNHS had 369 points.
