Wiley claims NE8 cross country crown

Addy Wiley, a sophomore on the Huntington North High School girls’ varsity cross country team, blew away the field to win the Northeast 8 Conference championship meet on Saturday, Oct. 5, at Huntington University.

Wiley clocked in at 18:31.9 to beat runner-up Sarah Mahnensmith, of Norwell, by more than 37 seconds, with the Norwell junior clocking in at 19:08.8 to lead her team to the conference crown.

The Lady Vikings placed fourth in the team chase with 108 points. Norwell notched 55 points for the win, four ahead of Leo, with Columbia City placing third among the eight teams with 70 points.

Junior Hanna Whitney placed 17th for HNHS in 21:06.4, just one-10th of a second ahead of senior Meg McDonald, who cut 50 seconds off her previous personal best for 18th place in 21:06.5. Sophomore Anna Guerre was 23rd in 21:39.4 and junior Naomi Richison was 49th in 25:02.3.

Lesley Zook also competed for HNHS, finishing in 25:17.6 for 50th.
