Niswander leads Viking harriers to fifth at NE8

A top-10 finish by Harrison Niswander helped the Huntington North High School boys’ varsity cross country team place fifth at the Northeast 8 Conference championship meet on Saturday, Oct. 5.

Niswander, a sophomore, crossed the finish line in 16:51.8, which was good for 10th place for the Vikings. Sophomore JT York placed 20th, stepping over the end stripe in 17:13.5. Junior Jordan Rockey finished a few spots after York, taking 23rd in 17:16.1. Senior Isaiah Clampitt and sophomore Greg Miller placed 33rd and 34th, in 17:54 and 17:58, respectively, to cap the Vikings’ score.

Also competing for Huntington North were sophomore Gavin Byerly, 36th in 18:04.3, and sophomore Dane Blackburn, 44th in 18:36.3.

Columbia City edged Bellmont for the conference title. The Eagles posted a score of 37 while Bellmont logged a 38. Columbia City was led by top overall finisher Landon Wakeman, who clocked in at 15:54.9.

New Haven placed third with a score of 90, followed by East Noble, 106; Huntington North, 120; Leo, 122; DeKalb, 157; and Norwell, 241.
