Whitney leads HNHS girl harriers to sixth at Marion

Hannah Whitney placed eighth to lead the Huntington North High School girls’varsity cross country team to a sixth place finish among 10 teams competing in the purple race in the Marion Invitational at Indiana Wesleyan University on Saturday, Sept. 7.

The Lady Vikings were competing without top runner Addy Wiley, who raced as an individual in the Elite race and placed fourth with a new school record time of 18:15.4 for the 5K.

Whitney, a junior, crossed the finish line in 20:13.6 for her season-best effort.

Sophomore Anna Guerre placed 17th in a personal-best time of 21:20.1, and Meg McDonald placed 29th in 22:14.7, also a new personal best.

Lesley Zook placed fourth for HNHS and 42nd among scoring runners with a time of 23:24.1, and Naomi Richison placed 46th with a clocking of 23:57.0.

Kendy Coles completed the HNHS squad with a non-scoring placing of 51st in 25:08.9.

Fort Wayne Concordia Lutheran won the meet with 39 points, followed by Mt. Vernon with 94 points, Oak Hill with 99, Concord with 120, DeKalb fifth with 138 and Huntington North sixth with 140.
