HU netwomen sweep USF; get swept by IT

The Huntington University women’s tennis team experienced both the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat on Saturday, Sept. 7, as it swept Saint Francis, 7-0, before being swept by Indiana Tech, 0-7, at Klopfenstein Courts.

The Foresters, 3-3, had almost no trouble at all with Saint Francis in the morning session, highlighted by third singles player Lana Singleton and fourth singles player Morgan Fitzpatrick each only losing one game apiece. Singleton breezed past Regina Faber, 6-1, 6-0, and Fitzpatrick just used the reverse scores to slide past Sarah Liter.

At first singles Meg Dolde downed Taylor Stanchin, 6-2, 6-1; Charlotte Sollil defeated Jessica Henline, 7-5, 6-2; Lisa Colling at fifth singles topped Maddy DeRoo (no score available) and Makenzie Logan at sixth beat Christana King, 6-4, 6-4.

Dolde and Fitzpatrick beat Stanchlin and Henline at first doubles, 6-2; Solli and Singleton teamed to defeat Liter and Faber (score unavailable) and Logan and Molly Burton downed King and DeRoo, 6-3.

Half of the six singles matches went to three sets in the loss to Tech. Dolde lost to Abigail Simms, 6-7, 6-1, 4-6, at first singles; Singleton at third singles fell to Martina Borges, 6-7, 6-3, 4-6; and Fitzpatrick at fourth lost to Dominque Michelet, 7-6, 2-6, 4-6.

HU managed to win at first doubles as Dolde and Fitzpatrick topped Vero Jimenez and Michelet, 6-4.

Solli and Singleton lost 5-7 to Abigail Simms and Carolina Fabbri, 5-7, at second doubles; and Colling and Burton lost at third singles to Borges and Elena Tokic, 3-6, as Tech got tdhe doubles point.

Completing singles play, Solli at second lost to Jimenez, 5-6, 5-7; Colling lost to Fabbri at fifth, 6-7, 6-7; and Burton fell at sixth to Tokic, 4-6, 4-6.
