Huntington native Tackett wins Barbasol PBA Tour Finals Sunday

Huntington native EJ Tackett won the Barbasol PBA Tour Finals, defeating Jakob Butturff, 2-1, on Sunday, July 21, at Red Rock Lanes, in Las Vegas, NV.

Butturff kicked off the championship match with a 247-225 victory. Tackett, however, responded with a 238-220 triumph in the second game to force a ninth and 10th-frame roll-off. In the roll-off, he toppled 45 pins to 26 for Butturff to win the tournament.

The victory marked the second of Tackett’s career at the PBA Tour Finals. It was also his first triumph of the 2019 season.

Competing in Group 1 at the tournament, Tackett occupied second place with a pinfall total of 981 after four qualifying games. In semifinals, he defeated Kristopher Prather, 237-224. Then, in the group finals, he dispatched Bill O’Neill, 2-0, with scores of 265-237 and 210-198 to move on to the title match against Butturff.

Tackett has now advanced to the championship tilt at the PBA Tour Finals three years in a row. He won the event in 2017. This year, his victory netted him a monetary prize of $30,000.

A 2011 graduate of Huntington North High School, Tackett currently resides in Bluffton.
