Homestead ends Lady Vikes' SB season at sectional

Host Homestead put up a pair of four-run innings and went on to beat the Huntington North High School varsity softball team, 12-9, at the Homestead Softball Sectional on Thursday, May 23.

The Lady Vikings, ending at 10-12 on the season, had taken a 3-2 lead in the top of the second when Homestead put up its first four spot in the bottom of the frame for a 6-3 lead. HNHS got one of those runs back in the top of the third inning but Homestead put up four more runs in the third for a 10-4 lead.

The Lady Vikes tried to rally back with three runs in the fifth, but Homestead blunted that with two runs of its own in the bottom of the frame. Huntington North put up solo runs in the sixth and seventh.

Laney Shaw went yard for HNHS in the first inning and Megan Stephan put one out in the sixth to lead a nine-hit HNHS attack.

Macy Lange and Jenna Poulson both scored a pair of runs, and Shaw and Erika Vinson each knocked in two runs.

Sydney Selvage took the loss in the circle, pitching 5.2 frames and giving up eight runs, four earned, on 11 hits, with one strikeout. Laney Shaw pitched the remaining .1 inning, giving up four runs, two earned.
