No. 2 Marian to 47-0 with win over Foresters

Second ranked Marian made the Huntington University softball team its 47th straight victim on the season in a 9-0 pounding on Saturday, April 27.

Marian needed only five innings to mercy rule the Foresters and win their 35th Crossroads League game of the year without a loss. After holding Marian scoreless for three innings, HU starter Meghan Fretz gave up a pair of runs in the fourth inning, then Marian added seven more in the fifth.

HU falls to 17-30 on the season, 13-22 in Crossroads League play.

NAIA All-Ameican Breena Smith handcuffed the Foresters on three hits, with eight strikeouts and no walks.

The shutout was Marian’s 20th of the season.

Marian had 10 hits for the contest, with Issy Hoyt, Sadie Baugh and Lanie Horen each having two.
