Miller's win in 3200 helps Lady Vikes to 3rd at North Side Relays

Alena Miller’s win in the 3,200-meter run led the Huntington North High School girls’ track team to third place at the Marion Relays on Saturday, April 13.

Miller, a senior, clocked in at 12:17.58 for her triumph, which helped HNHS to 76 points. Homestead won the nine-team meet with 173 points, followed by Fort Wayne Snider with 101.

Veronika Russell was runner-up in pole vault with a height of 9-0 to collect the next-best HNHS finish on the day.

The Lady Vikings added third place points in the 3,200 as well as Kyler Hoopingarner clocked in at 12:41.52.

Peyton Dorsett also got third place points for HNHS, sailing 15-10.25 in the long jump.

Fourth place finishes for HNHS went to Preslee Williams in the high jump at 4-10 and Makenna Shearer in the 100-meter hurdles, in :18.73.

Marian Garner was one spot further back in the 100 hurdles, in :18.77. Hanna Whitney took fifth in the 1,600-meter run, in 5:43.07.

In relays, HNHS took second in the 400-meeter distance medley. The quartet of Miller, Allie Aschliman, Hoopingarner and Whitney went 13:49.90.

The Lady Vikings’ 800-meter sprint medley team of Lily Clanin, Grace Gross, Williams and Brooke Goodrich placed fourth in 1:58.13.

The 3,200-meter relay team of Lesley Zook, Marlene Bulat, Kendyl Coles and Whitney took fifth in 11:45.48. The 1,600-meter relay team of Aschlimlan, Gross, Whitney and Goodrich, also placed fifth, in 4:32.29.

The 400-meter relay team of Clanin, Gross, Williams and Dorsett placed sixth in :55.27.
