HU women runner-up at HU track invite

The Huntington University women’s track team was runner-up at its own Huntington University Invitational on Saturday, April 13.

Molly Mitchell claimed the only HU win of the afternoon by topping the field in the 400-meter hurdles, in :59.54. With a short break after that feat, she came back to place second in the 800-meter run in 2:25.60.

Brooke Saylor turned in a pair of personal-bests to get a pair of runner-up spots for HU, which finished with 161 points to Hope College’s 245. Saylor heaved the javelin 35.14 meters and hurled the shot 11.58 meters for her spots.

Also grabbing off runner-up points for HU were Tayia Meadows in the 100-meter dash in :12:96, Saige Norris in the 1,500-meter run, in 5:11.11 and Alyssabeth Cottle in pole vault, 2.91 meters.

Oliva von Gunten claimed a pair of third place finishes for HU, doing so in the 800 in 2:30.34 and the 1,500 in 5:16.13.

Also taking thirds for HU were Jessica Chojnacki in the 400 meters, 1:01.75; Mara McFarland in the 400 hurdles, 1:11.48; the 1,600-meter relay team, 4:16.05; Emily Hubby in pole vault, 2.61 meters; Holly Holton in discus, 35.80 meters; and Emily Wellsand in hammer, 35.03 meters.
