HU baseball team wins on walk-off

A walk-off grand slam that turned into a double in the 10th inning pushed the Huntington University baseball team to a 3-2 win over visiting Marian University on Tuesday, April 9.

Marian had scored a run in the top of the 10th inning to take a 2-1 lead but HU matched that in the bottom of the frame on an Ian McCutcheon double and a Jarret Gray single. Donovan Clark then legged out an infield dribbler and Daniel Lichty walked to load the bases for Austin Pritchard, who promptly parked one over the right-center fence for an apparent game-winning grand slam.

In the celebration however, one of the HU runners ran off the field after touching the next base and was subsequently passed on the basepaths, being the third out of the inning.

Pritchard wound up with thrree of the Foresters’ nine hits on the day as HU improved to 18-9 on the season, 12-4 in the Crossroads League. Clark and McCutcheon both had two safeties.

Reliever Mason Shinabery wound up with the win, going the final 3.1 innings and yielding one earned run on three hits, with three strikeouts and two walks. Joey Butz went the first 6.2 innings and also gave up one earned run on three hits, with two strikeouts and three walks.
