Swimmers shine at state meet

The Indiana Stars Swim Club, the competitive swim team of the Wabash County YMCA and Parkview Huntington Family YMCA, competed in the 2019 YMCA State Championship Swim Meet on Friday, March 1, through Sunday, March 3,  at Fishers High School in Fishers.

Led by 13-14 boys swimmer Seth Blossom, who won six state championships, 31 Stars swimmers won 10 individual events, set four state records and earned 124 personal records.

Top 10 place finishers are:

Seth Blossom: 13-14 boys high point winner; state champion in 1,650 freestyle; state record time of 16:53.75; 200 backstroke, state record time of 2:04.72; 500 freestyle; 200 freestyle, 200 individual medley and 100 butterfly; and state runner-up in 200 butterfly and 400 individual medley.

Cooper McQuiston: 7-8 boys high point runner-up; state champion in 50 freestyle, state record time of :32.04; and 100 freestyle, state record time of 1:12.60; state runner-up in 25 butterfly; 100 individual medley; 25 freestyle; 25 breast; and 25 backstroke.

Cael McCann: 9-10 boys high point fifth place; state champion in 50 freestyle, :30.66; and 50 backstroke, :34.87; state runner-up in 50 butterfly; 100 backstroke; and 100 freestyle; fifth place 100 individual medley; seventh place 100 breaststroke; and ninth place 50 breaststroke.

Cooper Kowalski: 11-12 boys state runner-up in 50 breaststroke; third place in 100 breaststroke; ninth place in 100 individual medley; and ninth place in 50 butterfly.

Mya MacAleese: 13-14 girls fifth place in 200 breaststroke; ninth place in 200 individual medley; and fifth place in 100 butterfly.

Isaac Kowalski: 8 & under boys sixth place in 25 backstroke; and ninth place 100 individual medley.

Anna Kalhoefer: 9-10 girls ninth place in 50 breaststroke.

Jacee Dammeier: 13-14 girls 10th place in 100 breaststroke.

Dalton Husband: 9-10 boys 10th place in 50 freestyle.

Quinn Myers: 9-10 girls 10th  place in 50 freestyle.

Kayla Reich: 10th place in 200 backstroke.

Girls 8 & under 100 medley relay seventh place: Aubrey Hanes, Hayden Hammel, Aubrey Miller and Harper Hanes.

Girls 8 & under 100 free relay eighth place: Aubrey Hanes, Harper Hanes, Aubrey Miller and Hayden Hammel.

Boy 8 & under 100 medley relay third place: Lane Canvin, Isaac Kowalski, Cooper McQuiston and Dawson Husband.

Boy 8 & under 100 free relay third place: Isaac Kowalski, Dawson Husband, Micah Smith and Cooper McQuiston.

Girls 9-10 200 medley relay eighth place: AnnaKalhoefer, Ella Doyle, Mallory Tart and Haley Doyle.

Girls 9-10 200 free relay eighth place: Anna Kalhoefer, Mallory Tart, Haley Doyle and Quinn Myers.

Boys 9-10 200 medley relay third place: Dalton Husband, Luke Blossom, Cael McCann and Maverick Sommers.

Boys 9-10 200 free relay 4th place: Dalton Husband, Maverick Sommers, Luke Blossom and Cael McCann.

Girls 13-14 200 medley relay fourth place: Kayla Reich, Mya MacAleese, Jacee Dammeier and Madison Inman.

Girls 13-14 200 free relay sixth place: Jacee Dammeier, Kayla Reich, Madison Inman and Mya MacAleese.

Seth Blossom and Cael McCann will compete in the Indiana Swimming Age Group State Championships March 8 to 10 at the Indiana University Natatorium on the campus of IUPUI in Indianapolis, and have qualified for the Great Lakes YMCA Zone Championships March 15 to 17 at the McCorkle Aquatics Pavilion at The Ohio State University.

The Indiana Stars Swim Club is the competitive swimming team of the Wabash County YMCA and Parkview Huntington Family YMCA.  What had been two independent county Y teams joined forces in August 2018 to compete as the Indiana Stars Swim Club with swimmers from both Huntington County and Wabash County.  The Indiana Stars Swim Club alternates practices between both locations.
