HU softball team starts off with twinbill loss to No. 13 LWC

The 2019 schedule-makers didn’t do the Huntington University softball team any favors as it started off its season with a doubleheader loss to No. 13 Lindsey Wilson College on Saturday afternoon, March 2, at the visitors’ Sparks Park.

Wilson, already 8-0 heading into the games, dumped the Foresters without allowing a run, winning 7-0 and 1-0.

LWC scored in each of the first game’s first five frames, highlighted by a three-run fourth which included one of the Blue Raiders’ two dingers in the game.

LWC had 10 hits in the contest, five for extra bases. HU only had two hits.

Meghan Fretz took the loss in the circle for HU, going the first four frames and giving up six runs, on seven hits, with four walks.

Mallory West gave HU every chance at a win in the second game, yielding just a solo run in the fourth inning, but HU couldn’t get anything on the board. West went the distance, giving up seven hits with four strikeouts and two walks.

Denaia Rice and Paige Eichelberger each had two hits to lead the HU attack.
