Dirr grabs pair of All-American badges at indoor championships

Huntington University senior Aspen Dirr is wrapping up her final year with a bang as she claimed her second and third All-American badges of the year at the 2019 NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships on Saturday, March 2, at Dakota State University.

Dirr, who picked up an All-American badge this past fall in the cross country nationals, got her second with a fifth-place effotrt in the mile, and then two hours later got her third with a third-place finish in the 1,000-meter run.

Dirr became the first sub-five-minute miler in HU women’s history with a 4:56.9 clocking. She ten came back to go 2:55.65 in the 1,000 final for yet another badge.

Dirr also competed as part of the distance medley relay team, which placed ninth in 12:26.78. Dirr ran the anchor 1,600-meter leg, joining Saige Morris, 1200 meters; Jessica Chojnacki, 400 meters; and Molly Mitchell, 800 meters.

HU’s Adrien Gentie ran the mile on Friday, March 1, in the men’s competition, placing 12th in 4:23.3.

Indiana Tech won the men’s crown for the fifth time in the last six years. Wayland Baptist claimed its second straight women’s crown.
