HU's Dirr has record-breaking weekend

Senior Aspen Dirr broke a pair of school and conference records at the Crossroads League Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Taylor University on Friday, Feb. 8, and Saturday, Feb. 9.

Dirr clocked in at 5:02.71 to win the mile and get records in both. She then went 10:21.34 in the 3,000 meters for the win and the second pair of records, in fact crushing the CL mark by 11 seconds and the HU record by 19. Her times in both races punched her ticket to the NAIA nationals.

Dirr also got a piece of a third HU and CL mark by running the anchor leg on the victorious distance medley relay team. The foursome, which included Saige Norris, Jessica Chojnacki and Molly Mitchell, clocked in at 12:28.97, which also qualified them for nationals.

Dirr also helped HU place sixth in both the 1,600 and and 3,200-meter relays. Joining her on those teams were Norris, Chojnacki and Mara McFarland.

Mitchell added second place honors in the 600-meter run, coming home in 1:38.83. She added sixth in the 800-meter run in 2:26.47.

HU as a team placed fifth with 48 points. IWU won the meet with 161 points.
