HU women upset No. 16 IWU

The Huntington University women’s basketball team upset 16th-ranked Indiana Wesleyan, 69-61,  at Luckey Arena on Saturday, Feb. 9.

The win marks the second time the Foresters, 17-10 overall and 10-6 in the Crossroads league, have upset the Wildcats.

HU jumped out to a 17-10 lead after the opening quarter but saw IWU catch up by halftime at 31-all. HU held a 53-52 lead after three quarters.

Sarah Fryman led HU with 26 points. Maddie Richer added 13 points, Brooke Saylor had a double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds and Sam Hammel scored 10 points.

Hammel also had eight rebounds and eight assists on the afternoon, and Fryman added seven rebounds and four steals.

Katie Key scored 20 points to lead IWU. Nicole Ignasiak had 17 points and 10 rebounds.

The Foresters hit 28 of 59 shots from the field for 47.5 percent and added 11 of 14 at the free-throw line for 78.6 percent. The Wildcats hit 21 of 60 from the field for 35 percent and added 12 of 17 at the foul stripe for 70.6 percent.
