Stoltz, defense star as Vikes thump Norwell

Sawyer Stoltz knocked down 20 points to lead the Huntington North High School boys’ basketball team to a 48-32 thumping of visiting Norwell on Friday night, Feb. 8.

Stoltz, a 6-5 senior, hit 9 of 12 shots from the floor and was 2 of 2 from the free-throw line to lead the Vikings to their 15th win in 18 outings.

The Viking defense was also a star of the night, throwing a blank at Norwell in the first quarter as the Vikings held a 9-0 lead. They led 18-5 at halftime and went into the final frame with a 33-18 advantage.

Hank Pulver added 12 points and Trey Williams had seven for HNHS, which hit 21 of 36 from the field for 58.3 percent on the night.

Norwell, 11-7, was led by Levi Leidig with 10 points.

Pulver led HNHS with five assists and Zach Daugherty added four assists. Pulver also had six rebounds and Daugherty five.

Norwell hit only 6 of 27 shots from the field for 22.2 percent. It took a 16 of 20 effort from the free-throw line for the Knights to avoid embarrassment.

The HNHS junior varsity won 45-30 behind 18 points from Sam Thompson.
