Big comeback carries HU women to win

The Huntington University women’s basketball team wiped out a nine-point third-quarter lead by host Spring Arbor University with a furious surge in the final frame on the way to a 73-63 win on Saturday, Jan. 26.

The Foresters, 14-9 overall and 7-5 in the Crossroads League, were on the wrong end of a 53-44 score after three quarters of play, but Brooke Saylor and Casey Morton each scored eight points in the final frame to lead HU to a 29-10 fourth quarter advantage and the win.

Morton hit a three to cap off a 17-4 run that pushed HU to a lead of 61-57.

Saylor finished with a game-high 21 points and 10 rebounds to pace HU, and Sarah Fryman knocked down 17 points. Sara Doi came off the HU bench with 12 points and Sam Hammel added eight points, a game-high 14 rebounds and a game-high six assists.

The Foresters knocked down 29 of 53 shots from the field for 54.7 percent and added 13 successes in 19 tries at the free-throw line for 68.4 percent.

SAU was led by Anne Marie Wright with 19 points. Teona Feldpausch added 14 points and Gracie Cabana added 10.

HU dominated the glass to the tune of 37-20.
