HU men get down early, fall to No. 5 SAU

The Huntington University men’s basketball team never recovered from a 15-point deficit in the first half and wound up a 69-58 loser to host No. 5 Spring Arbor University on Saturday, Jan. 26.

The Cougars showed the Foresters why their defense has been highly-ranked this season by holding HU to just 21 first-half points and the 15-point deficit. HU managed to put up 37 points in the second half, but it was a case of too little, too late for the 14-10 Foresters.

Konner Platt scored 13 points and Tyler Arens had 11 to lead HU.

Spring Arbor, 21-3 overall and 11-1 in Crossroads League play, got 15 points off the bench from  Payton DeWildt and another 15 from Luke Barber. Paul Marandet added 12 points to go along with game-highs of eight assists and seven rebounds.

Arens had six rebounds to lead HU.

HU hit just 20 of 59 shots for 33.9 percent and added 13 of 15 free throw tries for 86.7 percent. The hosts hit 26 of 53 shots from the field for 49.1 percent and went 8 of 11 from the stripe for 72.7 percent.
