Lady Vike swimgirls topple Wabash

The Huntington North High school girls’ swim team won 10 of 12 events to topple visiting Wabash, 102-66, on Tuesday, Jan. 8.

Double-winners Laney Shaw, Allie Aschliman and Macy Lange led the charge for the Lady Vikings. In addition to their individual wins, all three also swam on the Lady Vikes’ two winning relay teams.

Shaw, a junior, won the 200-yard freestyle, in 2:19.0, and the 100-yard butterfly, in 1:12.99. Aschliman, also junior, captured the 200-yard individual medley, in 2:30.36, and the 100-yard backstroke, in 1:11.52. Lange, a senior, took the 500-yard freestyle, in 6:47.49, and led a three-girl sweep in the 100-yard breaststroke, winning in 1:24.31, with teammates Victoria Donaldson and Mandi Lippe taking second and third, respectively, in 1:36.52 and 1:43.57.

Alyssa Brinkman got the remaining solo win for North, winning the 50-yard freestyle in :29.96.

The trio of double-winners and Brinkman teamed up to the win the 200-yard medley relay in 2:12.19 and the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:56.26.

Morgan Cogar added second place points for HNHS in the 200 IM, touching home in 3:05.16, and the 100-yard freestyle, clocking in at 1:08.08.

Bekah Brunner took third place points in both the 200 free and the 100 free, touching in 2:30.83,  and 1:09.28, respectively. Brinkman was third in the fly, in 1:20.24, and Kaylee Levy was third in the backstroke, in 1:33.52.
