Marion beats up Lady Vikes

The Huntington North High School girls’ varsity basketball team suffered a 60-33 setback to visiting Marion on Saturday, Dec. 8.

The Lady Giants wasted no time taking a lead on the Lady Vikings, crafting an 11-4 advantage by the end of the first quarter, which they expanded to 23-11 by halftime. The visitors enjoyed a 36-21 lead at the close of three frames, then outscored the hosts to 24-12 in the fourth to cap the game.

Huntington North, 4-8, was paced by Maddy Robrock, who scored 15 points. The senior also pulled down six rebounds to help the hosts finish with 26 boards for the game, which matched Marion’s production.

The Lady Vikes went 12 of 41 from the field for 29.3 percent and 8 of 12 at the free throw line for 66.7 percent.

Marion got 19 points from Jazmyn Turner and 15 and 14 points from Ellie Vermilion and Rashaya Kyle, respectively.

The Lady Giants converted 25 of 46 field goal attempts for 54.3 percent and 7 of 11 freebie tries for 63.6 percent.

Huntington North won the junior varsity contest, 40-27.

The Lady Vikings, 8-3, were led by freshman Grace Sell, who tallied 14 points, and sophomore Addison Dennis and freshman Chloe Kauffman, who chipped in 10 points apiece.
