Manchester edges Lady Vikes on hardwood

The Huntington North High School girls’ varsity basketball team got edged by host Manchester, 41-37, on Tuesday, Dec. 4.

After going up 12-7 in the first quarter, the Lady Vikings watched that lead disappear in the second as the Lady Squires poured in 20 points while limiting HNHS to just eight to craft a 27-20 advantage by halftime. While Huntington North managed to trim a point off Manchester’s lead by the end of the third, 39-33, it mustered only four points in the final frame to wind up on the short end.

The Lady Vikings, 3-7, were paced by freshman Leah Campbell and senior Maddy Robrock, who scored 14 and 12 points, respectively.

Huntington North hit 17 of 32 shots from the field for 53.1 percent and 1 of 3 free throw attempts for 33.3 percent.

Manchester, 5-4, converted 15 of 39 field goal attempts for 38.5 percent and 3 of 5 freebie opportunities for 60 percent.

Kennedy Fierstos led the Lady Squires with 19 points.

The Lady Vikes won the junior varsity contest, 30-25.

Huntington North, 6-3, was paced by freshmen Meg Camomile and Grace Sell, who tallied nine and seven points, respectively.
