Fryman, Hammel lead HU women past MVNU

Sarah Fryman and Sam Hammel combined for 35 points to lead the Huntington University women’s basketball team over host Mount Vernon Nazarene University, 62-55, on Saturday, Dec. 1.

Fryman scored 19 and Hammel added 16 points as HU improved to 8-3 on the season with its first Crossroads League win in three outings.

The Foresters jumped out to a 15-6 lead after the first quarter, went into halftime with a 26-21 advantage and stretched the lead to 46-32 after three quarters.

Fryman added a team-high eight rebounds to her scoring and Hammel added a team-high five steals.

Taylor Gregory had a game-high 23 points to lead MNVU, 7-3 on the season. Elizabeth Fee had 14 points.

H hit 19 of 47 field goal attempts for 40.4 percent for the game and added 23 of 31 from the foul stripe for 71.9 percent. MVNU hit 20 of 49 shots from the floor for 40.8 percent and added 11 of 12 from the stripe for 91.7 percent.
