HU's Dirr continues reaching new heights as track season starts

Senior Aspen Dirr, fresh off earning All-American honors in cross country, set a new Huntington University mile mark to lead HU to third place in the Mastodon Open track meet at Purdue Fort Wayne on Saturday, Dec. 1.

Dirr won the mile in 5:13.61 to shatter the school record by five seconds. She later came back to win the 800-meter run in a personal best 2:36.21.

Molly Mitchell, Alyssabeth Cottle and Holly Horton also established personal-best for HU in the meet. Mitchell placed second in the 600-meter run in 1:41.33, Cottle took second in the pole vault at a height of 9-6.25 and Horton finished fourth in the weight throw with a toss of 38-6.25.

Emily Hubby made her collegiate track debut and place third in the vault with a height of 8-6.5, good for third place

Saige Norris rounded out the HU scoring list, placing second in an HU freshman record of 5:38.41 in the mile.

Indiana Tech won the meet with 43 points, followed by Wayne State with 27 and HU third among seven teams with 23 points.
