Vikings taking early lead and hold off Mississinewa for first win

The Huntington North High School boys’ varsity basketball team jumped off to a first quarter lead and held on to defeat visiting Mississinewa, 56-50, on Saturday, Nov. 24.

Sawyer Stoltz poured in 18 points and Zach Daugherty added 11 as the Vikings evened their mark at 1-1 on the season.

The Vikes led 17-9 after the first quarter and went into halftime with a 31-23 advantage. They held a 45-37 lead after three quarters.

Deven Newcomb, Hank Pulver and Trey Williams each scored eight points for HNHS, which hit 22 of 46 shots from the field for 47.8 percent and 6 of 7 from the free-throw for 85.7 percent.

Pulver and Williams added four assists to the HNHS cause, Stoltz led in rebounds with nine and Daugherty had three steals.

Anthony Horton scored a game-high 19 points to lead Mississinewa. Landen Swanner scored 12 points.

Ole Miss hit 18 of 41 from the field for 43.9 percent and hit 8 of 16 from the free-throw line for 50 percent.

The Viking junior varsity walloped Mississinewa, 45-21, behind 18 points from Aidan Hosler.
