Hammel, Richer pace Foresters past Aquinas

Sam Hammel and Maddie Richer combined for 37 points to pace the Huntington University women’s basketball team to a 70-55 win over host Aquinas on Saturday, Nov. 3.

Although Aquinas scored the first five points of the afternoon, HU led 23-18 by the end of the first quarter and 44-32 by halftime. They added to the lead in the third frame and went into the final quarter with a 59-42 advantage.

Hammel, a sophomore, topped all scorers with 21 points, and Richer, a senior, added 16 points for HU, 2-1 on the young season. Brooke Saylor added 10 points and 11 rounds for a double-double.

Hammel also had five assists on the day.

Michaela Faber notched 10 points to lead Aquinas, 1-2.

The Foresters hit 28 of 61 shots from the field for 45.9 percent and were perfect on all eight free throw shots.

Aquinas hit 21 of 50 shots from the field for 42 percent and connected on 8 of 13 free throw tries for 61.5 percent.
