HU soccermen upset Bethel in CL tourney

The sixth-seeded Huntington University men’s soccer team knocked off third-seeded Bethel College, 2-1, in the quarterfinals of the Crossroads League Tournament on Wednesday, Oct. 31, at Bethel.

With the win, the Foresters, 9-7-3, 3-4-2 in league play, advance to the tournament semifinals, where they will host seventh-seeded Indiana Wesleyan University on Saturday, Nov. 3.

Against Bethel, Huntington scored once in the first half and again in the second to craft a 2-0 lead on the hosts. The Pilots managed to get on the board at the 61:09 mark in the second stanza, but the Forester defense saw to it that they got no closer than that.

Senior Matheus Louzada scored Huntington’s first goal while sophomore Jake Erlandson tallied the second. The Forester offense logged nine shots, six of which were on goal. Louzada accounted for half of those scoring looks.

Bethel’s lone goal was scored by Lucas Moreira. The Pilots, 10-8-1, 4-5 in league action, totaled 16 shots for the game, with seven coming on frame.

Sophomore Gabe Greenfield earned the win for Huntington in goal, making five saves while yielding the Bethel score. The Forester defense was also credited with a save.
