Lady Vike harriers place second at sectional and head to regional

The Huntington North High school girls’ varsity cross country team placed all five scoring runners among the top 19 finishers to place second at the Marion Girls’ Cross Country Sectional on Saturday, Oct. 6, and earned a spot at next week’s regional.

Senior Alena Miller placed third individually as Huntington North scored 56 points to place runner-up to team champ Oak Hill, which had 32 points. Completing the top five finishers that earn advancement to regional are Northfield, third with 93 points, Mississinewa, fourth with 100 points and Southern Wells, fifth with 107.

Miller crossed the finish line in 20:44.1 for her finish, 26 seconds behind champion Mollie Gamble of Oak Hill, who won in 20:18.6.

Hanna Whitney placed sixth among scoring runners for HNHS in 21:27.3, and Kyler Hoopingarner was 12th in 22:24.5. Lesley Zook placed 16th in 23:48.2 and Naomi Richison finished 19th in 24:15.7.

Elizabeth Nalliah completed the course in 25:06.9 for 28th place to wrap up the HNHS squad.

Oak Hill took the top two spots and three of the top five.

Top 10 finishers from non-advancing teams also qualify for regional, to be held Saturday, Oct. 13, again at IWU.
